In people’s quest for nicer teeth, they might have had beautician or cosmetic veneers placed on their teeth. The common reasons for placing veneers include:
- Yellow teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Patchy teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Worn down teeth
Veneers by dentists and beauticians can whiten and straighten the teeth instantly. As such, it is very rewarding to consumers to have instant gratification by getting veneers done.
This article discusses our considerations when approaching a smile makeover with dental veneer case study.
Dangers of getting cosmetic veneers from unlicenced sources
Some people may want to have them removed. The more common reasons I have gathered from my patients who have beautician veneers done are:
- Oral infection due to bulky veneers that make cleaning difficult
- Inability to bite properly due to veneers being too bulky
- Unsatisfactory result from the veneers
- Inability to floss the teeth
Veneer placement with the dentists or with anyone else is often irreversible. They are bonded(glued) to the teeth and is impossible to remove the veneer from the teeth by peeling the veneer off or by dropping liquid to dissolve the glue.
Where removal is required, the veneer would need to be trimmed off. Unfortunately, once the veneer is trimmed off the surface of the tooth will never be as smooth or white as before. Veneer placement is truly irreversible.
We have removed veneers done by both dentists and beauticians. It does require a lot of meticulous, and literally painstaking, effort from the clinician to remove the veneer and preserve the superficial layer of the tooth surface.
Some of these patients do leave the teeth alone after removing the beautician veneers. Some of them do go on to restore the teeth with veneers with the dentists after removal.
Timeline and procedure for getting your teeth restored
Here is our process of restoring the teeth with ceramic/porcelain veneer at Gentle Smile Dental Studio:
1st visit: Initial Consultation

We start by taking records like photos, video, 3D intra oral (teeth) scan. We spend time communicating with patients to understand what their ideal smile is. With the records and the consultation with the patient we get started to design the ideal smile.
2nd Visit: Giving you a trial smile
We proceed with the trial smile to give the patient the preview of the designed smile.
3rd Visit: Starting dental work!
We start working on the teeth and using a 3D scanner we take the mould of the teeth and place temporary veneers over the teeth. This means that the patient’s teeth are covered with temporary veneer when they walk out of the clinic.
4th Visit: Harvest day!
The veneers are ready and are ready to be meticulously placed over the teeth.
*In the case of composite veneers, on the 3rd visit, the composite veneer will be placed on, requiring 1 less step than ceramic or porcelain veneers.
What happens after dental veneers
A nicely contoured veneer would mean that it is easier to maintain oral hygiene. With veneer like a natural tooth, proper flossing, brushing and regular check up with the dentist will be important to maintain good oral hygiene.
On a side note, we have our share of patients who have beautician veneers installed and are seeing the team for their regular maintenance. Our team would also be sharing tips on how to care for your teeth and gum when you have veneers on.
